When this is all over, a diary written by a young victim will become an international bestseller and translated into dozens of languages.

When this is all over, Renee Nicole Good’s poetry will be included in literature books.

When this is all over, science fiction will depict brutal soldiers of a tyrannical regime with uniforms similar to ICE agents.

When this is all over, people will claim they were always opposed to what was happening, even though their social media tells otherwise.

When this is all over, relatives will be shocked by what they find in their beloved nana’s bedroom drawer.

When this is all over, sports teams will change their caps because they don’t want to be associated with the color red.

When this is all over, Trump will replace Hitler as an example of the ultimate evil person.

When this is all over, Republicans won’t control the White House and both houses of Congress for at least a generation.

When this is all over, human remains will be found years after they close the detention centers.

When this is all over, we still won’t find out everything in the Epstein Files.

When this is all over, those who committed atrocities will still be hunted down and prosecuted, even when they’re in their 90s.

When this is all over, people in other countries will say what happened was a result of a unique flaw in the American character, just like we used to say about Germans. And they will ignore the danger lurking in their own society.

When this is all over, no matter how catastrophic the outcome, we’ll realize it could have been much worse.

When this is all over, many of the worst culprits will escape accountability.

When this is all over, companies and celebrities will wave off any scrutiny over what they did or failed to do in the 2020s. And the public will go along with that.

When this is all over, fascists and oligarchs will still be planning, plotting, and looking for the first opportunity to seize control.

When this is all over, the world won’t go back the way it was. If we’re wise, we’ll start to build something better.

When this is all over, I hope I’m still here.
