Matthew Arnold Stern -- NewsMatthew Elected President of Saddleback Little LeagueAugust 4, 2008 Matthew Stern was elected president of Saddleback Little League of Lake Forest, California for the 2008-09 season. His family has been with the league since 2004, and he has served as a manager, division team parent, and league secretary. He filled in as interim president when the previous one resigned in June. He was elected to a full year term at the August 4 board meeting. Stern brings his long experience in leading community organizations as a club president, area governor, and district committee chair in Toastmasters International. "Whether you're teaching adults how to give speeches or kids how to play baseball, the mission of a community group is the same," he says. "The focus is on the members and helping them achieve their goals. In Saddleback Little League, our focus is on the kids." He announced that the league will be making significant improvements in its program next season including expanded play with nearby leagues. "We want to provide our kids with varied and challenging competition while giving them the benefits of playing in a community league," he said. Stern has been a Lake Forest resident since 1996. He is married with two children. He has won a number of awards for public speaking and technical writing. As a president in Toastmasters, two of his clubs won President's Distinguished awards, the highest a club can achieve. He was awarded a Top Two area governor award in 1998 and was Division G Toastmaster of the Year in 2002. Saddleback Little League has served the youth of Lake Forest since 1957.
