Using Materials from this Web Site
If you would like to use
material from this Web site (for example, give one of my speeches or
include a Communication Tip in your Toastmasters newsletter), here is
what you need to do:
1. Send me an e-mail to
request permission and explain how you will use the material.
2. When you present the material, introduce by indicating it is from
me. If you were giving my cell phone
speech, for example, you can start it as follows:
"How many of you are frustrated by cell phone users? Matthew
Arnold Stern is one of these people. I'd like to present a speech he
wrote about this..."
A few precautions:
- Do not use a speech I have written for a Toastmasters' humorous
or International contest or any other contest that requires you to
give an original speech. You will be disqualified from such a
contest if the speech you give is not original, even if I give you
permission to use it. See your contest rules for more information.
- If you are using my material for a school paper, always use the
correct forms of quotation and citation, including footnotes or
endnotes as needed. See your instructor if you have questions about
formatting.
- Always request permission from me if you want to use material,
even if it is a brief quote. By getting permission from me, it would
avoid any confusion that comes from "fair use" rules. I
also like to know how my material is being used.
Contact me if you have any questions.
