Seven things you may not know about my writing life…

My new favorite writing spot

This post was inspired by an email from Bette Lee Crosby, author of Amazon 5-star rated Memory House and other heart-warming books. She wrote “Seven things you may not know about my writing life.” That got me inspired to write my own list.

  1. I write with a laptop, so I’m free to write wherever I like. I have several places around the house. My new favorite place is on the swing in our backyard.
  2. I usually put together a soundtrack for a book that I’m writing. I pick songs that fit the theme and the mood of the story. The music keeps me inspired and stimulates my creativity.
  3. I act out dialogue while I’m walking around the house or neighborhood. I’m surprised that my family and neighbors haven’t had me committed.
  4. I’ve stopped drinking Diet Coke because I didn’t like how it affected my body. I still get my writer-mandated dose of caffeine with a ice-blended cappuccino in the morning and the occasional ice tea.
  5. Some of my book ideas take a long time before I commit them to a page. A scene from Offline was based on a company meeting I went to in 1986. I started working on the ideas for Doria in the 1970s.
  6. I’m planning to revise some of my earlier works. One of them needs an update, and another one wasn’t as successful as I would have liked. A benefit of independent publishing is that it enables me to give my work a do-over when needed.
  7. My hometown of Reseda has a major influence on my writing. This is also true for my brother.
